Running a Harry Potter TCG League?

Is it for your store?

Though Harry Potter TCG League is in it's first year, it's based upon the success of the Pokémon TCG League which is entering its third year of existence. In the first 2 years, over 300,000 participants went to participating league stores nearly every week for 9 months a year. This easy-to-run program brings Harry Potter TCG fans and collectors into your store week after week. It is a great way to let customers know about your business as well as building store loyalty as well. League locations become a Harry Potter TCG fan's hub for TCG product, information, and competition. Harry Potter TCG League stores also receive additional benefits like early product release and special programs exclusive to stores running this program. Running a Harry Potter TCG League at your store is a win-win situation for you and your customers.

Who can run the league?
Any retail location that sells hobby/game materials and has play space available is a candidate for the Harry Potter TCG League program.

Can you give me an example of what running the league is like?
We suggest that retailers schedule their Harry Potter TCG League sessions at least two days a week for two hours a session. You have the option of running more than one two-hour session on the same day.

Example:
Mondays, 4-6 P.M., Saturdays, 11 A.M.-1 P.M. and 3-5 P.M.

Here's an idea of how a league session should proceed:

Trainers show up.
New members each get a membership ID/card pocket.
The Gym Leader writes down their names in the master membership book (in alphabetical order).

During the session, the Gym Leader:

  • hands out promo stamp cards;
  • pairs up trainers to play against each other (if necessary);
  • stamps the trainers' promo stamp cards as they earn points;
  • exchanges filled out stamp cards for promo cards to those trainers who earn them; and
  • keeps track of points earned by league members (checks box every time a stamp card is filled out and then adds on the final points earned at the end of week 4).

During the end-of-season tournament, the Gym Leader pairs up the participants based on their seedings from their season point totals; runs the single-elimination tournament to the end; and awards unique treatment promo cards to participants and winners of the tournament.

Once each season, the Gym Leader sends the session reporting form to Wizards of the Coast, Inc.

What is a Gym Leader?
The Gym Leader is the organizer for your Harry Potter TCG League. He or she keeps the program running smoothly and helps ensure the quality that your store and your customers deserve. Gym Leaders can be a staff member or an interested volunteer. Many of our more successful Harry Potter TCG Leagues are run by parents of Harry Potter TCG fans who have an interest in maintaining a safe and fun environment for their children.
